Social Programme

The Hague has a moderate coastal climate with cool summers and mild winters. The average temperature in January is 1.8°, in July 16.5° and in August 21.1°. February, March, April and May are the driest months.

The organisers have arranged a reception at the City Hall on wednesday evening and a formal dinner on thursday evening.

There will be no organized social programme before or after the workshop. Instead we have listed below some possibilities to organize activities that participants may wish to take up either individually or in small groups.

Keukenhof Gardens - Netherlands Flower Gardens

Pictures from the Keukenhof Gardens can be found on posters all over the world. The advantage here is that you can now personally smell the flowers and this even from miles away.

Every spring Keukenhof is a feast for the eye. Millions of tulips and other bulb flowers are then in bloom. A fantastic experience for people of all ages and a wonderful spectacle to photograph! An overwhelming display of colour in a beautiful setting covering an area of 32 hectares that incorporates elements of traditional and modern landscape gardening. The flower shows in the pavilions are unique.
Keukenhof is only open for about two months in the spring and participants who arrive early are in luck because Keukenhof closes on 19 May.

Madurodam, the Netherlands in miniature

Madurodam is a park where you can see Holland in miniature, or as they say: "Here you can see the smallest city of Holland".

Madurodam is a miniature copy (on a 1:25 scale) of the highlights of the Netherlands: the canal houses of Amsterdam, the Alkmaar cheese market and parts of the Delta Works. Windmills turn, ships sail trough the harbour and trains are traversing the city on the world's largest miniature railway. Madurodam is set in beautiful gardens.

Tours and daytrips in The Hague.

Tours and daytrips can be booked through different agents. Den Haag Marketing for example offers the following suggestions:
Royal Miles

A walk by the Binnenhof, royal statues, Noordeinde Palace and many other interesting, royal sights. The walk is accompanied by one of our professional guides.

The Hague City Mondial

The Hague is proud of its cultural diversity. In The Hague, dozens of cultures meet to form a colourful society. The City Mondial walk gives you the opportunity to get to know some of the surprising and fascinating aspects of these cultures. Accompanied by one of our guides, you visit a Turkish mosque. Let yourself be amazed by an Indian dance of the gods or visit a haman. Be sure not to pass on the coffee and baklava during your cultural discovery!

The Hague

The growth of the village ‘Die Hage’ by the end of the nineteenth century caused an explosion of building activities. New quarters, such as the Statenkwartier, were built in the style known as Jugendstil, which was very popular at the time. The new period of bloom and growth stimulated building in the old centre as well. Our walk takes you past these buildings in the old inner city. Shop fronts in the elegant Art Nouveau and exuberant tile pictures of the Rozenburg china factory reveal the origin of the shop premises. A novelty at the time were the big department stores built in the style of the ‘Vienna Sezession’. A famous example of this style can be seen in tea room Krul. Even though the original interiors have often disappeared, the facades tell us of a special style that conquered all of Europe in such a short period of time.

Coffee The Hague Style ('Haags Bakkie' )

We can make a selection of cafés and restaurants in The Hague. Whether you are looking for a place to have a reception with coffee for a hundred guests, for a high tea or an intimate dinner in a veritable Hague mansion, we can always find you the perfect location! We are also happy to book you accommodation in The Hague or the surrounding area.

Royal Tour

The Royal Tour is a tour of the town on a luxurious touring car with one of our guides. Part of the trip is covered on foot. You visit seaside resort Scheveningen, with its beautiful promenade and the old fishing village. The tour takes you down the Hague palaces, such as Noordeinde palace, Lange Voorhout palace and Kneuterdijk palace. In addition, you will get to see many historical buildings and we visit the Knights ’ Hall. Coffee at a appropriate location is included in the programme.

A Breath of Fresh Air

The unique combination of beach and city allows you to combine a trip at sea with your shopping and dining! Several shipping companies in the Scheveningen harbour will provide tailor-made programmes for a day of sport fishing or sailing. During the summer, there are the regular round trips as well.
