The workshop venue

The venue of the ECA workshop is a department of the University College of West Flanders. (Address: Sint-Jorisstraat 71, B-8000 Brugge; Tel.: +32 50 33 32 68.) This department is situated in an old secondary school right in the centre of Bruges. The architect of this building also build the Central Station of Antwerp, the City Hall of Bruges and the chapel of the Holy Blood.

It was the Belgian state who asked the famous architect Delacenserie to built this school building. The stately neogothical building was finished in 1884. The same year the school opened and it has never closed since. In all those years, the building has been used for teacher's education.

Part of this unique monument is an original and quite extraordinary 19th century gymnastics hall. The hall is in a courtyard of the school building. On the outside it looks more like a chapel but on the inside you still find gymnastics equipment. The whole interior is in wood, a copy of a famous local barn. In the cellars you can still admire the original changing rooms and bassins to wash feet. Our workshop will be held in this gymnastics hall.
